Program Description: Regulatory Compliance is of grave concern always, but especially during times of heightened scrutiny by medical reviewers. CMS’ has stated concerns about the sources of clinical information for hospice certifications of terminal illness (CTI) and other recent reminders from CMS emphasizes the importance of compliance with CTI and Medicare election statement requirements. These items will be part of every medical review and there is a new focus on them during Medicare surveys. The comprehensive assessment of the patient is the ground work for the care to be provided and requires additional attention by most agencies. This program delves deep into the requirements for the CTI, Medicare election statement and comprehensive assessment and their impact on operations. It also covers other regulatory and billing necessities such as the plan of care, Notice of Election (NOE), and current medical review topics.

Program Learning Outcome: Participants will actively engage in the learning activity and indicate an intent to change their practice by implementing best practices in the comprehensive assessment of the terminal patient to contribute to optimal patient outcomes.

About the Presenter:
Melinda A. Gaboury
with more than 27 years in home care, has over 17 years of executive speaking and educating experience, including extensive day to day interaction with home care and hospice professionals. She routinely conducts Home Care and Hospice Reimbursement Workshops and speaks at state association meetings throughout the country. Melinda has profound experience in Medicare PPS training, billing, collections, case-mix calculations, chart reviews and due diligence. ZPIC, RA, ADR & TPE appeals with all Medicare MACs have become the forefront of Melinda’s current impact on the industry. She is currently serving on the NAHC/HHFMA Advisory Board as ex-officio and is Associate Director on the Home Care Association of Florida Board of Directors. Melinda is also the author of the Home Health Pocket Guide to OASIS-C2: A Reference for Field Staff.
