Program Description: The administrator of a home and community support services agency is tasked with ensuring quality care and
services to clients while also maintaining client satisfaction and enabling and respecting quality of life for clients. This can best be accomplished when the agency has a
culture of encouraging open, honest and respectful communication and staff self-reflection. The program presents the role of emotional intelligence at critical
pressure points that may add stress to staff and client interaction. The presenter also discusses the requirements for admission, transfer, and discharge as well as emergency
discharge when communication fails. Also provided are measures for evaluation of staff performance in interpersonal skills and communication while offering suggestions to ensure documentation of actions and requirements met.

About the Presenter(s): Rosalind Nelson-Gamblin recently retired from a 33-year career in state government at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission,
where she was a senior policy specialist for regulation of the home health, hospice, and personal assistance services industry including supportive palliative care, assisted living, and day activity
and health services. In her state career, she analyzed state and federal legislation for impact to providers and consumers, promulgated and interpreted state regulations, developed and delivered
continuing education and training to providers and surveyors, and provided regulatory guidance to both industry representatives and leaders and state of Texas surveyors and investigators.
Rosalind is also a subject matter expert for federal standards and possesses a keen understanding of accreditation for home health and hospice care. Rosalind is well-versed
in the regulations for the settings where home care is delivered including nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, intermediate care facilities for individuals with developmental disabilities,
and independent living settings.
Rosalind has been a public speaker for home care and hospice since 2000; and she is now an independent healthcare consultant.
