Program Description: This is an informative session on nursing peer review which presents when and how to conduct a nursing peer review, the Texas Board of Nursing requirements, HHSC requirements, as well as best practices.

Program Learning Outcome:

  • Participants will actively engage in the activity and indicate an intent to change or enhance their practice by identifying the types of nursing peer review, when nursing peer review is required, and how to conduct and document a nursing peer review.

About the Presenter:
Amanda J. Ellis
advises licensed providers on operational and regulatory matters related to their practices, including licensing and health care privacy law compliance. She has represented various entities and individuals at the State Office of Administrative Hearings and before other agencies, including the Texas Medical Board, Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners, and the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Ms. Ellis is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Austin Bar Association, the Texas Pharmacy Association and the Texas Counseling Association. She frequently speaks before professional organizations, state agencies and industry groups regarding administrative and health law issues, including professional health care licensing and enforcement defense and federal and state privacy law compliance.

Ms. Ellis currently serves on the Board of the Administrative Law Section and is a member of the Health Law Section of the Austin Bar Association. In May 2013, she was appointed to the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners. Ms. Ellis is Board Certified in Administrative Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and serves on the Administrative Law Exam Commission.
