Program Description:Texas Home and Community Support Service Agencies (HCSSAs) have experience with preparing, implementing, and being surveyed upon Emergency Preparedness Plans. However, now certified home health and hospice agencies also have Federal Emergency Preparedness requirements with which to comply. This presentation seeks to compare and contrast the Texas and Federal requirements and offer suggestions for how certified agencies can augment their current plans to remain compliant with minimum rework. Each agency will understand what requirements they must meet based upon their category(ies) of licensure. Obtaining policies and procedures and a plan is one thing, being prepared for survey by understanding and implementing your plan is the next step.

This presentation will illuminate the checklist agencies can use to assure they are survey ready regarding Emergency Preparedness. More importantly, they will have taken important steps to insure the safety and stability of their clients, their staff members, and their companies. No one can totally prevent disasters and emergencies, but focused preparation will help mitigate their impacts.

Program Learning Outcome:

  • Learners will apply disaster preparedness rules, regulatory changes, and requirements related to patient care during a disaster into their disaster preparedness planning and agency operations.
