Program Description: Hiring employees is exciting. It means the employer is growing and is successful. But, if the employer does not think about unintended consequences of the hiring and on-boarding process, often times right from the beginning, the employment relationship can be rocky. Attorney Alicia Haff discusses some of the most common errors in the hiring and on-boarding process as well as successful strategies that could assist in smoothing this process. Specific topics addressed are background checks, application materials - what should and should not be in these materials, offer letters/contracts, and handbook review - hot topic items.

Program Learning Outcome: Participants will actively engage in the learning activity and indicate an intent to change their practice by implementing best hiring practices to remain in compliance with state and federal employment requirements.
