strategies to reduce 30-day readmissions, but are we living up to the challenge? With the negative reimbursement impacts to
hospitals and a likely HHA pay-for-performance measure, agencies need to continually look at their data to understand the
relationships of patient characteristics and the utilization of services provided to improve their scores. Using data from the
SHP (Strategic Healthcare Programs) database, we will analyze the different characteristics and agency profiles behind
hospital readmissions. The data provided during this session will help agencies focus and refine efforts that lead to better

Identify how HHA’s should use the CMS hospital readmission penalty criteria to position their value proposition
Identify the characteristics of patients that are readmitted to the hospital

nationally at Press Ganey, Visiting Nurses Association of America, American Congress of Healthcare Executives, and State Associations on topics such as

About the Presenters: Speech-language pathologist Cortney Baker, MS, CCC/SLP,
is the owner of KidsCare Therapy, a pediatric home care agency in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Cortney has been in health care for 10
years with experience as both a clinician as well as Administrator. At KidsCare Therapy, she has been integral in building the clinical
development programs. Cortney currently oversees the daily operations of the agency and has served on the Pediatric Committee for TAHCH
since the inception of the committee.
Belinda Williams, OTR, has more than 25 years of experience in a variety of health care settings including psych, geriatric, acute and
pediatric. To date she has specialized in pediatric care for more than 15 years and still enjoys evaluating and treating.
Belinda recently completed certification in AOTA’s Fieldwork Educator Certificate Program and is matriculating toward a double MBA
in Leadership and Healthcare Administration. She has facilitated trainings for Texas OT Association, TOTA Trinity North District,
TWU, the Infant Mental Health Advocacy Conference, school districts and numerous organizations purposed for the betterment of children’s

If so, you are NOT at the Texas HHS TULIP Portal; however here is some info for you!
Effective July 5, 2023, Nurse Aides (NAs) and Medication Aides (MAs) are now
required to use the new credentialing system in the Texas Unified Licensure
Information Portal (TULIP) for licensing certification or permitting activities. PL 2023-14
The original grace period was through October 31st, however, there was a significant
backlog due to identified system issues which led to an extended grace period. All NAs
certifications and MA permits active on June 16, 2023, will be considered active until
April 30, 2024.
Nurse aides renewing their certification are required to complete 24 hours of inservice education every 2 years. NAR Approved In-Service Education Programs has a list of approved programs. Nurse aides may complete 12 of the required 24 hours of in-service education in a healthcare entity other than a facility licensed or certified by HHS, the Texas Department of State Health Services or the Texas Board of
Nursing.
Effective July 5, 2023, HHSC will not accept or process paper forms that are emailed, mailed or faxed to HHSC.

Bias, as defined by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC COA/LSNA) is the “tendency or inclination to cause partiality, favoritism, or influence.”
