It touches every part of a business, the service it provides, the clients it serves and, ultimately, affects its financial performance. While quality elements are defined and regulated in hospice and palliative care, it is easy for the associated reporting to become just that, a report. What if quality became a member of your team, with a clear job description and introduced to every new team member on day one? With a clear understanding of how a culture of quality can positively impact patient care, improve employee satisfaction, regulatory and financial performance, hospice and palliative care leaders can take their quality programming from mundane to meaningful. Where would we be without our volunteers? In a world where technology is an important part of everyday life, successful volunteer professionals leverage technology to develop a volunteer recruitment and retention strategy. Gone are the days of posting volunteer opportunities at the local coffee shop, library, or the current volunteer recruitment websites. To stand out, volunteer professionals need to understand how to develop a volunteer recruitment and retention strategy that includes an analysis of the current volunteer program to identify what is working well and not so well. Using that information and leveraging what we will be discussing in this session, your volunteer program will grow in ways that you may have never imagined. Part One | Hospice Medical Review in a Medicare Certified World. This program takes agencies through the winding road of Medicare scrutiny. While billing the Medicare benefit and getting paid relatively easy, there is always a risk of things being reviewed at some point and what can you do to avoid denials. Participants will be able to define Targeted Probe & Educate (TPE) and outline the structure of how to respond to any level of medical review that may occur, including UPIC, RA, SMRC. Part Two | Hospice Documentation Supporting Eligibility. Accurate hospice eligibility documentation is critical to fulfilling the CoPs and payment requirements. The lack of supporting documentation for a terminal prognosis is the number one reason for claim denials under Medical Review. The clinical documentation must go beyond the LCDs and common tools for documenting eligibility by drilling down to the details and characteristics that differentiate terminal and chronic patients with the same diagnosis. [3505] Hospice Medicare Advantage Carve-In: The Time Has Come
Details of the Value-Based Insurance Design (VBID) Model – Hospice Benefit Component. Presentation Info: TAHC&H Virtual Event | Winter Conference | Recorded for On-Demand Access Presentation Date | February 9, 2021 Program Description: This presentation covers the details of the Value-Based Insurance Design (VBID) Model – Hospice Benefit Component. Medicare Advantage (MA) has long had coverage for home health patients, but there has never been coverage for Hospice under the MA benefit. VBID is a demonstration that will begin January 1, 2021. There are 9 Medicare Advantage Organizations (MAO) that will be participating and have coverage in multiple states. In addition to Hospice care there is an expansion of Palliative Care services that will be offered to patients through the MAO. CMS is testing how the hospice benefit component can improve beneficiary care through greater care coordination, reduced fragmentation, and transparency in line with recommendations by the Office of Inspector General (OIG), the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) and others. CMS will require that MAOs provide beneficiaries with broad access to the complete original Medicare hospice benefit. This presentation covers all known aspects of the demonstration and prepares hospices for the reality that Medicare Advantage is now in the Hospice world.
