HCSSA Topic(s) Addressed: §558.259[d][4]agency responsibilities §558.260[a][3]basic principles of management in a licensed health-related setting Program Description: The Public Health Emergency (PHE) due to the COVID-19 Pandemic lasted much longer than anyone anticipated or desired. Many regulations were adapted to assist agencies as they attempted to continue providing care in extraordinary circumstances. As the industry attempts to return to more normal operations we have to wonder if it will it ever be truly “normal” again? Do we really want it to be? Some aspects, such as the ability to work remotely, have boosted employee satisfaction and increased productivity. Is bringing everyone back to in person working situations the best plan? Should we have clinicians back in the office for education, meetings and case conferences? Will changes impact my current staffing challenges, and how? This session will help you inspire your team, through culture and leadership, to begin the process of defining what the “new normal” looks and feels like for your organization. TAHC&H Faculty/Presenter(s): Sherry Teague, MESS, ATC, PTA, HCS-D, HCS-O, K&K Healthcare Solutions and Dr. Tonya Miller, PT, DPT, PhD, TYM Coaching LLC About the Presenter(s):
Sherry Teague, a native Floridian, is the CFO and co-owner of K&K Health Care Solutions. Sherry has been the driving factor in both her and Dee’s movement from employment to ownership – first with a contract rehabilitation company (Integrity Rehab, Inc.) that provided physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology services to local home health agencies in Marion and Citrus counties, and then into their own home health agency, founded in 2003. In 2009, Sherry was honored with the Marion County Chamber of Commerce “Small Business Person of the Year” Award. Sherry is dedicated to taking the pain out of continuing education for health care clinicians and administration by leveraging technology and meeting customer needs. Sherry has a strong sense of community service, as evidenced by her volunteer status as an athletic trainer at Citrus High School for over 13 years, as well as her membership with Rotary International that exemplifies service above self. Sherry received her athletic training certification from Valdosta State University (GA) in 1989, and her Masters in Exercise and Sport Science degree from the University of Florida in 1991. She completed her A.S. degree at St. Pete Jr. College in St. Petersburg, FL, to become a physical therapist assistant in 1998. About the Presenter(s):
Dr. Tonya Miller is a national speaker and founder of TYM Coaching. With over 25 years of executive leadership skills and a PhD in Leadership Studies, Tonya combines real-world experience with academic expertise. She’s passionate about personal growth and developing strong leadership cores committed to integrity, accountability, and self-awareness. Managing a healthy personal and professional life is a priority for Tonya. Blending her love for all things nature and fitness, you’ll often spot Tonya running trail races. Though she’s typically near the back of the running pack, she’ll cross the finish line with a bagful of litter she’s collected along the way. When she’s not outside tidying up her little corner of the planet, Tonya loves to give back to her community. Stuart, Shareholder, Crain, Caton and James About the Presenter(s):
Kimberly R. Stuart practices appellate law, commercial litigation, and employment and labor law. As the oldest of her generation in a very large Italian family from Brooklyn (who got to Texas as quickly as she could), Kimberly learned early that to be heard, you have to get into the action, make your point quickly, and be ready to defend it. Kimberly puts this experience to use in her practice by dealing with her clients openly and frankly. Kimberly began her legal career as a briefing attorney to Judge Margaret Garner Mirabal on the Court of Appeals for the First District of Texas. That experience helped her to identify what it takes to preserve a record at trial and what judges look for in appellate briefing. Kimberly’s representative employment law experience includes successfully defending employers in FLSA wage actions and Title VII litigation. She has also effectively represented employees and employers in matters related to covenants not to compete and fiduciary duties. Additionally, Kimberly has successfully defended her clients, from Fortune 500 companies to sole proprietorships, in products liability matters including toxic tort defense and appeals. In the area of premises liability, Kimberly won victories for Fortune 500 companies, such as Walmart and Home Depot, in state and federal appellate courts. Kimberly knows that the key to a good settlement is strong trial preparation. She prides herself on building lasting and solid relationships with her clients so she can anticipate their needs and guide them to the best decision, whether it is to compromise or go the distance. An important part of Kimberly’s practice is helping her clients avoid litigation altogether through reviewing contracts, examining trade secret and confidential information protection, conducting self-audits to ensure regulatory compliance, and assisting clients with best practices training and compliance. In her employment practice outside the courtroom, Kimberly handles all varieties of employment disputes, including claims of discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wrongful termination, breach of contract, and employment-related torts. She drafts, evaluates, and updates personnel handbooks, workplace policies, employment contracts, and severance agreements. Kimberly has defended numerous clients in matters before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Texas Workforce Commission, and the Department of Labor, as well as other state and federal agencies, resulting in dismissals. Part One: Now that the Texas State of Emergency for the COVID-19 Pandemic has technically ended, it’s time to look back at the massive effects it had on our industry. In this presentation, we will recap the changes and adaptations that we as home care providers had to implement during the global event in order to continue to do business, including Emergency Preparedness, Infection Control, OSHA ETS, CDC requirements, Blanket Waivers, staffing shortages, and government assistance programs. Part Two: As we in home care always do, we’ve adapted and overcome every challenge thrown at us during the past 2 years and 8 months. In this presentation, let’s not dwell on the past, but learn from it and move forward with a new level of resilience. We’ll discuss a new way of doing some things, and which protocols are forever changed, as well as which aspects of the industry can return to a relative “normal”. Reviews minimum requirements, and presents when it's best for agencies to do more than the minimum! Presentation Info: TAHC&H Event | Spring Virtual Conference | Recorded for On-Demand Access Presentation Date | May 12, 2022 Program Description: When keeping up with the daily operations of home care; client management, Covid-19 protocols, and just getting people to show up, the more mundane tasks and less-pressing regulatory requirements can easily take a back seat. No Client Left Behind: Taking QAPI Seriously in PAS

[3626] No Client Left Behind: Taking QAPI Seriously in PAS
Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) is often treated as a chore...but it's so much more than that! Presentation Info: TAHC&H Winter Conference 2022 | Dallas | Recorded for On-Demand Access Presentation Date | February 24, 2022 Program Description: Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) is often treated as a chore we have to "check off the list" to remain in compliance with regulations. But it's so much more than that. There's a reason that every successful organization in the world uses some version of QAPI as a measuring tool to continue to evolve and adapt in an ever-changing environment. Just because you don't bill medical insurance, doesn't mean that QAPI is less important than it is for home health and hospice. Private Duty agencies have a different, and in some ways deeper obligation to their clientele than medical providers. You're in their homes for extended periods of time, and become involved in many areas of their lives, including their general wellbeing. With this in mind, you'll learn how analyzing QA information and applying improved performance measures to the whole spectrum of service will not only enhance the quality of care you provide, but foster loyalty amongst your clients and employees. Setting and Holding Professional Boundaries in Private Home Care

[3666] Setting and Holding Professional Boundaries in Private Home Care
Reviews what's okay and what's not okay when it comes to staff's relationships with clients, and how to mitigate the potential risks to the agency. Presentation Info: TAHC&H Event | Spring Virtual Conference | Recorded for On-Demand Access Presentation Date | May 12, 2022 Program Description: When we talk about boundaries in private duty home care, we sometimes cringe. We cringe because we know that even our best staff cross professional boundaries with their clients, and some obliterate boundaries altogether. This happens despite an agency's best efforts to put professional boundary measures in place and communicate about them constantly. When added to the stressors of daily operations, this frustrating topic gets placed at the bottom of the priority list. "It's going to happen anyway, and our efforts backfire, so what can we do about it?" [3632] Taking the Intimidation Out of RN Delegation for Private Duty and PAS
If you own a PAS in Texas, and you’re not yet providing RN Delegation as a specialty program, then you could be doing your clients a dis-service, or unknowingly breaking the rules. Presentation Info: TAHC&H Winter Conference 2022 | Dallas | Recorded for On-Demand Access Presentation Date | February 24, 2022 Program Description: Do you ever worry that your caregivers could be “crossing the line” when it comes to assistance with self-administration of certain medications? Do your staff really provide “hand-over-hand” assistance with eye drops and inhalers? What about those clients who need their oral medications crushed or put in food? If you own a PAS in Texas, and you’re not yet providing RN Delegation as a specialty program, then you could be doing your clients a dis-service, or unknowingly breaking the rules. Our primary goal in PAS is make the lives of our clients and their families simpler. So, if we “draw the line” at those much-needed tasks that must be delegated, then are we really giving them the best service we can?
